Experience
Teaching isn't just a job; it's my passion. I know that every child has the capacity to learn, regardless of challenges and external circumstances. I consider it my role as a teacher to reach them in any way possible. I've been teaching for four years and have worked with a wide range of students, both in a classroom setting and outside it. In order to best serve each of these varied students with differing needs and learning styles, I must continue to learn as well, incorporating different strategies to increase the accessibility of lessons to every child. My lessons are designed to engage kids and keep them interested, but also to push and expand their thinking, about both the material and the associated skills. I earned my bachelor's and master's degrees from Georgia State University. My bachelor's program resulted in a dual certification in early childhood education and special education. In my graduate program, I focused on learning disabilities and behavioral issues. Next spring, I'll begin working toward a specialized degree in math education. I tutor a variety of subjects, including reading and math for elementary and middle school, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra I. I have also worked with students preparing for the ISEE and SSAT. As a teacher/tutor, math is my preferred subject, because math instruction is often challenging for both student and teacher. The problem solving and critical reasoning skills honed in the process help in many areas of education. When I'm not working, I like to pass time with my kids, play sports, travel to places I haven't seen before, and listen to music.
